Mother’s Day Tribute Campaign 2025

Mother’s Day Tribute 2025
Perhaps it is because my mother’s side of the family hails primarily from Ireland, but Mother’s Day always drums up thoughts and feelings of my Celtic, ancestral roots. There is a Celtic proverb that says, “In the shelter of each other, the people will live.”
Saint Martha’s was founded in 1983 as a shelter for victims of domestic violence. We provide that service today, along with a Drop-In Center to offer increased accessibility for survivors and their families. When I think of what it means to be a shelter to one another, it is led by the hearts of the mothers that I have the privilege of serving, where I see this proverb come to life.
As they work to establish bedtime routines, potty train, help with homework, discipline, nurture, and fiercely protect their children, it is the mothers who are the shelter. When they cook together, attend support group together, and share resources with one another, it is the women – who may or may not necessarily have children – who are the shelter. When they answer the hotline, safety plan, deliver meals, or hand out toothpaste to the residents and clients, it is the staff who are the shelter.
On this Mother’s Day, may you remember those who have helped build your foundation, those who have protected you, those who have nurtured and comforted you. May you remember those who have been your shelter and consider making a special donation, a Mother’s Day tribute, in their honor.
In the shelter of each other, the people will live.
